MySeLf

I am an eighteen years old teenage girl. My name is Cindy Ngu Zhi Xian. In Chinese, my name means ladylike. I come from Sibu, Sarawak. There is a lot about myself that I want to share with you.

Well, let me describe about my physical appearance first. I am quite tall. My height is 173 cm. I have curly hair. It is very difficult to handle it. I have to spend a lot of time to comb it. But I still like my hair because I inherited it from my father. My face is round because I am fat. I have a pair of big eyes that are inherited from my mother. I have a mole just below my left lip. So it is very easy to recognize me. The older generation says that it is a good mole. It symbolizes that I have a lot of delicious food and delicacies to eat throughout my life. I do not have to worry about food. Food will be prepared for me. I think that is good. At least I do not have to worry about food.

I come from a big family. There are my father, my mother and three siblings. My father works in a private company. He is now 50 years old. My mother is a secondary teacher. She teaches Home Science. Her cooking and baking skills are amazing. Every day she prepares food for us with all her love. We always fight to eat and my mum always scolds us for that. She is now 48 years old. I have two sisters n one brother. I am the eldest. My younger sister is studying form five in SMK Tung Hua, Sibu. My other sister is studying primary four in SJK(C) Tung Hua, Sibu. My brother is now eight years old. He also studies in SJK(C) Tung Hua, Sibu. To them, I am their role model. All of them are looking up to me. I have to do my best and try my best to become their good and caring sister. I love my family.

I like to read. I read all sorts of books for example, novels, fairy tales, and magazines. I like music too. I play the piano and the violin. I love to play classical music and pop songs. To me, playing musical instruments and listening to music can help me to release my tension. Besides, I can express my feelings too. For example, when I am happy, I play some joyful music – “The Entertainer”. When I am sad, I play sentimental music. Furthermore, I love to watch dramas and movies especially the Korean Movies. For examples, I watched “One Liter Tear”, “Full House” and many more. I love to watch cartoons. I love Doraemon, Powerpuff Girls, and others. My mother always says that I am very childish because I like watch cartoon shows. I like to eat and cook too. That is why I cannot lose my weight. I learned cooking from my mother. So, I can use my cooking skills now.

I studied in SJK(C) Kwong Ann, Sibu. I got 7A’s in my UPSR Examination. Then, I studied in SMK Tung Hua. In my PMR Examination, I got 8A’s. Our batch broke the school record! There were 48 students getting all A in their PMR Examination. Later in my SPM Examination, I took 13 subjects. I got 13A1’s. We broke the school record again. There were 23 students getting straight A’s in their SPM Examination. My classmate, Akira Wong, even scored 16 A1’s in the SPM Examination. We felt very happy. We also felt proud of ourselves.

There are a few reasons why I want to become a doctor. Well, when I was still a little child, I told my parents that I want to become a doctor. They supported me. You must be wondering why I want to become a doctor at such young age. It is because when I was 3 months old, I underwent an intersuccession surgery. I thought that a doctor is great because he saves people life. Furthermore, I have three cousins who are medical students. I am inspired by them. Besides, if I become a doctor, I can help to cure the people that are unfortunate, for examples the native in Africa.

Well, when I got my result, I was overwhelmed. I could not believe that I scored straight A1’s for my SPM Examination. My family, friends and teachers felt happy for me too. After this, I used my result to apply for scholarships. I applied many scholarships because I was afraid that I would not get the scholarship to further my studies. It is because my father is now 50 years old and he was working in a private company. He has to take care of my family too. He cannot afford to send me to study medicine overseas. So, I really tried my best to perform well in the interviews. Luckily, I managed to get a few scholarships. I chose the Private Service Department scholarship because I can further my studies in Ireland and become a doctor.

I went to International Education Center (INTEC), UiTM to study my A-Level. My programme is A-Level Medicine. I am under a twinning programme – Penang Medical College (PMC) and Ireland. My class is 10M4. I am required to take Biology, Chemistry, Physics, IELTS and Ethics Study. I really need to struggle hard in order to achieve good result. I am very weak in Physics so I have to pay more effort on it. I hope that I can cope with it. Well, life at here is totally different. I have to adapt to a new environment. Madam Siti, the counselor, told us that a normal person needs to take one year to adapt to a new environment. I am totally agreed with her. I admit that I am homesick. I really miss my family and my mother’s cooking.

When I came here, I did not live with my friends. We were arranged in different rooms. It seems that when we are further apart, our relationships also become further apart. We talk less. We chat less. We hang out less too. The gap between us seems to become wider and wider. I am upset to see this. But when God close your door, He opens your window. I made a lot of friends here. They are really nice and good. Thanks to my cousin too because she accompanies me and helps me to solve my problems all the way in INTEC here.

There is a lot about me but you have to discover it out by yourselves. As the Chinese saying goes, “You will know the strength of a horse after the journey and you will know a person’s nature when time pass by”. That is all about me.
